The Tail Flick Light Heat Pain Test Apparatus operates on the principle of directing a beam of light onto the rodent's tail, creating a localized heating effect that induces pain. When the temperature exceeds the animal's pain threshold, the rodent flicks its tail to avoid the stimulus. This method, known as the tail flick test, assesses pain thresholds and their variations. When the animal feels pain and flicks its tail against the platform, an internal sensor immediately detects the motion, stops the timer, and turns off the light source. The instrument automatically records the reaction time and light intensity, with data exportable via USB drive.
The device features an adjustable infrared light source, which uses a parabolic reflector to focus infrared light onto the animal’s tail. During the experiment, the operator places the test animal on the apparatus, positioning its tail in the infrared beam for stimulation.
